Title: Munich Center for Machine Learning
The chair for Database Systems and Data Mining has a central role within the MCML which is one of four countrywide competence centers for maschine learning and artificial intelligence. As a spokesperson Prof. Thomas Seidl takes a central role in organizing and representing the MCML. The chair is responsible for four subprojects in a wide variety of machine learning topics such as Reinforcement learning in Spatial Environments (Prof. Schubert), Machine learning with Knowledge Graphs (Prof. Tresp), Unsupervised Anytime-Techniques (Prof. Kröger) and Distributed Learning Algorithms (Prof. Seidl).

Title: MLwin: Maschinelles Lernen mit Wissensgraphen
Knowledge Graphs are a well established way to represent structured knowledge representing the core of modern expert systems or question answering machines. Modern Knowledge graphs such as the Google knowledge, Yago or DBpedia describe a wide variety of information as triples. The MLwin project developes new machine learning techniques for extracting, verifying and faciltating knowledge graphs. As a practical application the techniques will be applied to medical decision support systems where knowedge graphs yield a large potential making expert knowledge explicit and automated decisions must be explainable.
